Development in Welland has steadily increased over the past few years. COVID has given the small town an added boost in popularity as home buyers are seeking more affordable housing across the Niagara region as the real estate market continues to heat up.
The housing market has seen a steady upswing that has rippled across the country as people are seeking more space and more freedom from their typical work commutes. Since COVID-19, this year has seen a substantial increase in home buyers which has increased the average price of homes in Welland by 15.8% over last year. Despite increasing prices, Welland Ontario is becoming a sought-after option for affordable housing.

Welland Ontario is a community in the center of the Niagara region. Nestled between Lake Ontario and Lake Erie, Welland was central in connecting waterways and railways via the canal that runs through the city, as industrial production was established there in the early 1900s. Welland now has a population of around 52,000 people.
Welland has been booming before it was cool
In 2019, Welland set a record for housing developments and new builds. Welland is expected to experience large growth as over $110 million has been injected into the town’s new housing infrastructure.
An increase in housing is also accompanied by new businesses, services and jobs. A new hospital is set to be open in 2026 to accommodate the influx of growth in the area.
Welland offers an outdoor lifestyle
Golf courses, water sports and trails for walking and biking are some of the outdoor activities that are available for Welland residents. The canal that runs through the city includes footpaths that run along the water with public access. Welland is also a short distance from surrounding communities and farmer’s markets.
